There has been talk around the wrestling business lately of some top stars making returns to WWE. One of those has been a rumor of a possible WWE return for Phillip Brooks (Better known as his ring name: CM Punk). With that news comes along of excitement from fans, but not all are thrilled about his return. There seem to be some superstars that are not supportive of Punk working with them again according to Dave Meltzer on his radio show. Regardless it’s not their decision and it’s between Punk and WWE executives.

CM Punk – MMA career

Punk left WWE during the peak of his popularity with fans. He and WWE had differences and issues with one another for years so Punk took his fame and used it to start an unsuccessful MMA career. He fought a couple of one-sided losses in the UFC over the next two years before UFC let him go. Then he disappeared for a few years before reemerging in AEW a rival wrestling organization.

Punk in AEW

His stint in AEW has shown that he can still draw a crowd and perform at a high level. It seemed as though the superstar had found his new home as everything was going well. That’s when backstage issues once again decided his fate at a wrestling company.

The Backstage Brawl

After the All Out pay per view he had a backstage brawl with other AEW wrestlers that sealed his fate with the company. Kenny Omega and then the Young Bucks. There have been talks of Punks’ contract with AEW being bought out allowing him to wrestle in WWE or anywhere he pleases.

The belief is that a possible return of CM Punk to the WWE is very likely and will happen. He still performs at a high level and has a huge fan following which will make the decision easy for WWE executives.

As for now, it is mostly just a rumor and nothing has come of it yet. As of now, Brooks is enjoying MMA Commentary on UFC Fight Pass. On November 18th, he called the action CFFC 115: Forest vs. Lubberts.
