A lot of upsets have happened within the first six weeks of College Football. Here is our Ranking heading into week 6:
25. Texas A&M
The Aggies continue to fall after losing to Mississippi State. They will presumably fall out of the top 25 next week as they take on Alabama.
24. Southern Methodist
A surprising story this year in College Football is the SMU Mustangs. They have blown out all of their opponents this year including TCU.
23. NC State
The Wolfpack will have a big test this next week as they get ready to take on HM Boston College. They will also take on Wake Forest on the 13th of November.
22. Arizona State
ASU replaces UCLA as the second-ranked team from the Pac-12 after they beat UCLA 42-23. They will play Stanford this next weekend. With the Cardinal coming off of a win against Oregon… this could be a very intriguing game.
21. Wake Forest
Wake Forest remains to be undefeated. With a trip to Syracuse up next, Wake Forest should be favored to win and get off to a 6-0 start. The Demon Deacons are now the only undefeated team in the ACC, but the schedule gets much more difficult in the second half of the season.
20. Texas
The Longhorns coach will get his first shot at Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, the game that has always defined the careers of coaches at the two schools. The Longhorns have lost three straight to the Sooners, including last year’s 53-45 four-overtime classic. No pressure.
19. Florida
Florida hosts Vanderbilt in a game they will try to use to get back on track offensively. Against Kentucky, Florida failed to rush for more than 200 yards for the first time all season.
18. Auburn
Auburn’s schedule is forever ridiculous, and now the Tigers have another huge game on deck (followed by a trip to Arkansas).
17. Kentucky
Kentucky has played LSU just twice since 2008, losing both times by a combined score of 76-10. If the Wildcats stay undefeated by beating the Tigers (which they could with LSU’s performance this season), a huge road game against Georgia looms on Oct. 16.
16. Arkansas
The Hogs will need to bounce back in a hurry. They go back on the road this Saturday against an Ole Miss team that can score points in bunches. A win over the Rebels would be huge, especially with three straight games at home.
15. Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish have been using a rotating quarterback, which is not a good way for an offense to get comfortable. This week they take on Virginia Tech.
14. Ole Miss
The Lane Train went off the rails on Saturday as we saw Kiffins Rebels get demoralized by the Crimson Tide, but one bad game can’t turn into two for an otherwise talented offense.
13. Oklahoma State
The Cowboys continue to impress this season but will need to stay focused with a bye this week. In two weeks they play against the Longhorns.
12. Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers are having one heck of a ride so far this season. For any chance at the College Football Playoff, they will have to continue blowing teams out of the water.
11. Michigan State
The Michigan game is three weeks away. MSU will be at least a slight favorite against both Rutgers and Indiana on the road in the next two weeks, and if the Spartans survive, they’ll be 7-0 when they host a potentially 7-0 Michigan on Oct. 30. The stakes of this resurgent season could go up soon.
Honorable Mention: Baylor, Fresno State, San Diego State, Oregon State, Boston College, Clemson, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Stanford, Mississippi State
10. BYU
The Cougars do not qualify for the New Year Six, but they are making the case that they should be in a bowl game.
9. Ohio State
In a game against Rutgers, Ohio State took the lead and never looked back. The Buckeyes have a tough schedule in the second half of the season.
8. Michigan
The defense continuing to have success is going to determine how games against Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State fare.
7. Oregon
After a loss to an unranked Stanford team, the Ducks fall three spots. Cristobal was without his offensive Coordinator against Stanford, as Joe Moorhead remains in the hospital. The Ducks will need to win out and win the Pac-12 Championship game to have a 49% chance at making the CFP.
6. Oklahoma
The Sooners beat Kansas State by six points and remain undefeated. They will take on #20 Texas this week.
5. Cincinnati
Cincinnati’s defense is ferocious, and not just in the back end. The Bearcats showed against Notre Dame they can take control of big games on big stages. They have some things to clean up offensively but could ride their defense to the CFP potentially.
4. Penn State
3. Iowa
One team will fall, the other will stay. #3 Iowa takes on #4 Penn State this weekend in a matchup that could be the best game all weekend.
2. Georgia
The Bulldogs shut out the Razorbacks 37-0. To beat this Georgia team, opponents had better figure out a way to block its front seven on defense and handle the Dawgs’ overall team speed on that side of the ball.
1. ALABAMA
Alabama’s defense isn’t perfect, but it’s effective. The Crimson Tide mishandled the Ole Miss Rebels. They only play two ranked teams the rest of the way. At the end of the season they will play Arkansas and Auburn.
