Deion Sanders

Early Wednesday morning, USA Today Sports’ Brent Schrotenboer reported that Deion Sanders doesn’t do home visits for recruitment. Is Sanders crazy or smart? Well, I’ll let you answer that for yourself but I’ll give you some information to sway your mind one way or the other.

In his 14 months as the head coach at Colorado, Sanders has reeled in several big-time recruits, including offensive lineman Jordan Seaton and cornerback Cormani McClain. During that time Deion Sanders has made no off-campus contact with recruits, which includes no home visits.

Zero.

“Coach Prime did not conduct any off-campus recruiting visits,” the school confirmed to USA Today Sports in an email Feb. 28.

Off-campus contacts have been a staple of the college football recruiting process for years. Prior to accepting a job in the NFL, Jim Harbaugh had gone on 145 visits since Dec. 1 2022. In that same time, Texas HC Steve Sarkisian has gone on 128. Beyond the months of December and January, coaches are restricted from making those contacts.

Sanders has been given a budget of $200,000 to use for private travel that he can use for recruiting. He has not used it.

“The football staff have not used this service for recruiting since Coach Prime started his term as coach,” the school said in response to a records request this month.

Like I said above, it up to you how you want to view this. Personally, I would say that Sanders could be missing out some other big-time recruits for Colorado, but doing things differently isn’t a bad thing either. A lot of Sanders’ recruits come from the transfer portal. In previous years, Sanders has had some mobility issues with blood clots in his leg. Let us know your thoughts, is Sanders missing out on some big-time recruits by not going on off-campus visits?
