Chicago Blackhawks young phenom Connor Behard has reached the 100 point mark, becoming the 24th player in NHL history to reach this milestone before turning 20 years old.
It took Bedard 112 games to achieve this feat, making him the 11th quickest to do so in terms of the amount of games played. Unfortunately, the Chicago Blackhawks still stand at a lowly 14-28-3, struggling just as bad as last year despite bringing in some veterans to help ride the ship.
Bedard’s Rookie Year
Perhaps the most hyped prospect ever, Bedard was fantastic in his rookie year with 61 points in 68 games (22 goals 39 assists), well enough to take home the Calder Trophy.
While he did struggle on the defensive side, it was to be expected from a such a young and raw player. His impact was still evident as in the 14 games he missed with a broken jaw, the Blackhawks managed just 20 goals.
Bedard’s Second Year
Chicago is still in the dumps as a team, but Bedard has continued his impressive play with 39 points in 44 games (12 goals 27 assists). He has turned his sophomore season around quite nicely, as earlier on in the season, he was in a bit of a slump.
“I don’t know man. I just don’t really feel like I’m doing anything,” Bedard said after his slow start to the 2024-2025 season, where he went 11 games without a goal in November, the longest goalless streak of his young career.
Bedard’s Future
Seeing as Bedard was able to quickly overcome a slump early in his career, all the noise about a sophomore slump or a fluke rookie season should be out of the window. The kid’s intangibles are just as impressive as his skillset. He will never be the kind of player who gives out huge hits or battle along the boards all game due to his relatively slight stature, but his feet is good enough to navigate the ice for years to come, much like the Blackhawk legend Patrick Kane.
