Glasgow, Scotland hosts the second-ever WWE Clash at the Castle featuring five matches, the same as Backlash a month and a half ago. Can Drew McIntyre avenge his failure at WrestleMania? Who of Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles will make the other say “I quit?” Can any of the Scottish wrestlers on the roster pick up a W in their home country? This written edition of Creative Control Card goes over how each match could go.
World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre (Judgment Day banned from ringside)
On paper, this match should be a true one-on-one. Damian Priest seems like he won’t have anyone to help him… or will he?
Drew McIntyre does not want to get screwed at two straight Clash at the Castle events and for the first 20 minutes, no funny business has happened. Eventually, both Priest and McIntyre are down. CM Punk’s music hits… but he’s nowhere to be seen. McIntyre loses his cool, he starts searching for Punk but can’t find him. He barely beats the countout and appears to bounce off the ropes with hitting a Claymore in mind.
Suddenly, he loses his footing. CM Punk trips up Drew McIntyre from behind while the referee isn’t looking. McIntyre’s moment is crumbling before his very eyes again. Priest turns McIntyre around and hits him with the South of Heaven. The cover, the pin… but McIntyre kicks out! Both Priest and Punk are stunned. McIntyre powers up and hits Priest with the Claymore. The cover, the pin, the win, and Drew McIntyre wins the World Heavyweight Championship. With nobody to cash in a contract on him, he stares down CM Punk as Clash at the Castle fades to black.
Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles (“I Quit” Match)
Before this match, a backstage segment takes place in which AJ Styles is being interviewed. He makes a promise to the WWE fans: if he loses, he will retire from wrestling for real. After all, he’s had a longer tenure in WWE than any of The Rock’s runs in the company. Saying “I quit” means he truly is done.
Styles goes all out from the get-go. He brandishes multiple tables from underneath the ring. Not long after, he finds a chair and begins whaling on Cody with it. This of course does not stop Cody in the slightest. Styles needs more than that to dethrone the American Nightmare. He then gets an awful idea.
Styles goes underneath the ring once more and emerges with a box. The box has a Brahma Bull logo on it. He opens the box and reveals its contents: the belt The Rock used to wallop Cody in Chicago. Cody recognizes the belt and immediately sees red. He takes control of the match by swiping the belt from Styles. He really opens up Styles’ back by hitting him with the belt repeatedly. Eventually, Cody has Styles in a belt-assisted crossface. Styles uses the last bit of his breath to say “I… quit.”
Cody Rhodes retains his title… but he went to some uncharacteristic lengths to get there. What could be going on with the American Nightmare?

Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable
It’s a technical thriller between champion and challenger. Any time Chad Gable finds himself in a corner, he calls on Otis to help him but does not receive this help. The one time Otis does try to help, he knocks out the referee.
It seems as if things are going to come to a head after Otis takes exception to Gable throwing Akira Tozawa into the barricade. Gable tells Otis “you leave me no choice” and yells “No matter what!” Suddenly, three hooded figures enter ringside. Two of them annihilate Otis, the other knocks Maxxine Dupri down with a couple of chair shots.
Sami Zayn tries to save Otis but is also thrown into the ring where Gable hits him with three Olympic Slams. The referee slowly makes the three count and Chad Gable has finally won a singles championship. The hooded figures reveal themselves: The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile.
Gable’s assailants quickly round up the other members of the Alpha Academy and bring them into the ring. Gable has a microphone and cuts a short promo about how he turned on Otis before Otis could turn on him. He then renounces Otis, Maxxine, and Tozawa as members of the Alpha Academy. He finishes his promo with “Ladies and gentlemen… meet Team Gable.” Gable and company exit Clash at the Castle to a chorus of boos.
WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Piper Niven
This homecoming will not go as smoothly for Piper Niven as it will for McIntyre. What this match will prove to Niven, though, is Chelsea Green is an anchor weighing her down. Green tries to run interference on Bayley several times and even causes a disqualification.
Niven is enraged. Green successfully ruined her homecoming. She’s always been the benefactor of the two. Niven takes out Green then drives her through the barricade. She demands the match be restarted and Nick Aldis grants her wish. As Green is taken to the back, the match resumes.
Bayley is in command for the first third of the match, but Niven sidesteps a clothesline and throws Bayley into the corner. She runs into Bayley at full speed and the momentum is on her side. Niven looks to finish things with a bodyslam but Bayley gets out of it. She reverses it and, in a feat of strength, hits Niven with a Bayley-to-Belly. Bayley doesn’t have the energy to hook the leg for the pin, but Niven doesn’t have the energy to answer the count of three. Bayley takes advantage of her opportunities and retains her title. She quickly leaves the ring so the Clash at the Castle crowd can send Niven off. What’s next for her after breaking free from Chelsea Green?
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill (c) vs. Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are too powerful for one team to take on its own. The two challenger teams immediately target Belair and Cargill. Dawn and Baszler start the match and take down Belair. Fyre and Stark begin brawling with Cargill.
It’s an all-out brawl for 15 minutes. Cargill tosses both Stark and Fyre onto the steel steps. Bianca takes a nasty bump into an exposed turnbuckle. Dawn Pillmanizes Baszler, rendering her submissions useless. Finally, someone tags in. Baszler tags Stark in, but Dawn tags in Fyre. The two “fresh” wrestlers find a prone Belair and weaken her further. Suddenly, they reach an impasse. Who’s going to pin Belair? Fyre and Stark fight and because of this, Belair rolls out of harm’s way. She tags in Cargill and here we go.
Cargill instantly floors both Fyre and Stark. She picks up momentum and now it’s finisher time. Baszler and Dawn charge the ring only to be met with a KOD from Belair and Cargill’s finisher: Jaded. Stark and Fyre launch a counterattack, but the result is the same. Cargill stacks up Dawn and Fyre while Belair stacks up Baszler and Stark. One, two, three, Belair and Cargill retain.
