Crosby Out for Six Weeks with Wrist Injury

News broke today that Pittsburgh Penguins star, Sidney Crosby will be out for six weeks due to a procedure on his left wrist. This means he will be out for the start of training camp and the first few weeks of the season. The injury to Crosby’s wrist has been an issue for him for years. This is the first time the team decided that surgery was the best course of action for Sid. The team announced that the surgery was a success and that he will make a full recovery. The six-week recovery time is actually a blessing in disguise. Waiting until a month before the start of the season to get surgery could have sidelined him for much longer.

Evgeni Malkin will also be out of the lineup at the start of the season, so the Pens have some holes to fill for the first few games. The Penguins have not given a clear timetable for Malkin, other than he will miss the start of the season. Crosby is currently 34 years old and if Pittsburgh still wants to make a cup run with him on the team, he needs to be on the ice. The general consensus is that both Crosby and Malkin will be back soon, so there is no need to panic. With Crosby and Malkin out, Jake Guentzel will be expected to pick up the slack.

The Penguins open the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Crosby is only expected to miss four or five games before his return to the ice.
