With the NFL season starting in 3 days, I thought it would be a good time to see who our writers think are the best in the league heading into this season. I put a message in our football group conversation asking for everyone to send me their top 5 QB’s heading into this season. These are ranked based off of how many votes they got for each rank. 1st place got 5 points, 2nd place got 4, and so on. Let’s take a look at who they think is on top:
5. Lamar Jackson: 24 Points
Lamar comes in at 5 on this list. One of the faster QB’s in this league, he is able to keep defenses on their toes with the ability to run for 40 yards in an instant. The only real thing keeping him from being higher on this list is a lack of pass-catching depth on the roster, in my opinion.
4. Tom Brady: 25 Points
This one is the big surprise to me, i think Tom Brady is barely a top 10 QB in the league, but if the site thinks differently, I have to put him in here. I don’t really have much more to say about him, He is surrounded by the same 10 guys he played with last season so they should probably pick up where they left off.
3. Josh Allen: 34 Points
Josh Allen is in a pretty good spot, he gets to continue his chemistry with Stefon Diggs, as well as having a good defense on the other side of the ball and a good set of legs on him. He definitely will be in the MVP conversation again this season and probably seasons to come.
2. Aaron Rodgers: 39 Points
The former MVP finds himself at the number 2 spot, which is not surprising because he is getting older, despite what his play on the field shows. I have him as my preseason frontrunner for MVP again this season because all the Packers did was add Randall Cobb, who I think is better than Lazard.
Honorable Mentions
There are quite a few QB’s that got at least one point. This includes Deshaun Watson(1), Justin Fields(1), Dak Prescott(3), Justin Herbert(5), Kyler Murray(7), and Russell Wilson(19). I was honestly surprised Russ got bumped out of the top five but I can understand due to his absence in the second half of the season the last few years. I also was surprised to see Justin Fields on this list when he has not even started a single regular season game yet, but I guess we have some people here who really believe in him!
1. Patrick Mahomes: 73 Points
#15 on the field but #1 in the hearts on many here at Championship Sports Media. Did we think he would be anywhere else on this list? I think the blow out for the number one spot was a little bit unexpected for me but I guess it makes sense. He is going to be on a mission this season to get back what he thinks is his, and he will probably make defenses cry to get it. Be excited, Chiefs fans.
