Dak Prescott could command $60 million in a contract renegotiation this offseason, becoming the highest paid player of all-time, according to Bleacher Report’s NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Prescott is coming off the best season of his career. Last season he led the league in touchdown passes (38), completions (410), and was 3rd in passing yards (4516). He also finished second in MVP voting, although while not receiving any first-place votes.

Taking all of that into account, the report that Prescott could become the highest paid player of all-time still comes as a shock. While sources closer to the team saw this coming since March of 2023, the rest of the NFL community is still trying to come to terms with the news. Former Charger linebacker, Shawne Merriman, had his own choice of words on the matter.

The regular season success of Dak is undeniable. In the eight seasons he’s been at the helm for the Cowboys, he’s had a regular season record of 73-41. But in the playoffs, he’s a wimpy 2-5. And this past season’s playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers might’ve been the worst of them all.

Regardless, what we do know is that playoff success, even at QB, doesn’t matter when it comes to big contracts in recent years. Just look at the number 2, 6, and 7 highest paid players in the NFL right now (also of all-time).

Justin Herbert is #2 making $52.5 million, and he blew one of the largest leads in playoff history in his first playoff game. At #6, we have Kyler Murray making $46 million, who also lost his only playoff game he’s ever played. Then at #7 there’s Deshaun Watson also making $46 million, who hasn’t been to the playoffs since pre-Covid.

Teams have made it abundantly clear they don’t care about a QB’s price, so long as they have one. Passing has become a bigger emphasis in recent years, as over 60% of plays on offense are pass attempts. And while star running backs like Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry still exist and are important players, their market has severely spiraled in recent years.
