After reaming in critical condition since Monday night, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has shown improvements and is now awake.
This comes after several updates throughout the past 24 hours by his teammates and family. The most recent being from teammate cornerback Kaiir Elam sharing that Damar Hamlin has improved and is awake.
Also shared from the Buffalo Bills Twitter account is an update from the physicians at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center; “While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact.”
Hamlin also opened his eyes last night and became responsive for the first time since Monday Night while gripping the hands of those close to him, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
These updates come at a critical point in the week, as the Bills are practicing today for the first time since Hamlin’s injury. Bills quarterback Josh Allen and head coach Sean McDermott held a press conference Thursday.
“It’s amazing to know the impact that this has had on so many people, and for now, Damar to be awake, and his Mom to be able to share that with him is truly incredible,” McDermott said.
Before leaving the room, Allen made sure point out his support for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
“People should not be attacking Tee Higgins whatsoever,” Allen said. “Hopefully he found some relief today, I hope he doesn’t hold that upon himself.”
The Bills and the entire league have followed Hamlin’s recovery process as numerous players have sent their thoughts and prayers toward Hamlin’s family.
Amid Hamlin’s recovery process, his charity, The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive, located in Pittsburgh, PA, has raised over seven million in donations.
