Damian Lillard to evaluate Blazers offseason before decision

After many reports that the Portland Trail Blazers attempted to trade the No. 3 pick, they wound up keeping it. With that third pick, they took essentially what some are calling Lillard’s replacement. While that statement may be true in the future, the 32-year-old, Damian Lillard has yet to make his decision

The pick leaves the Blazers’ future with some uncertainty. As does it with Lillard’s loyalty to the franchise. Though, Portland’s star player is in no rush to be traded. He has stated before that he wants to stay in Portland. The seven-time all-star may be waiting to see what the Front Office does during the free agency period, which officially starts on Saturday, June 30.

“I’m told the timeline for when the future will land with Damian Lillard likely extends now between tonight and the start of free agency and into free agency,” said Shams Charania.

Though Chris Haynes, of Bleacher Report tweeted this after the draft:

So whether or not Damian Lillard will make his decision anytime soon, the writing may be on the wall…if no move is made. Other teams have prepared to make a trade offer for Lillard if the star point guard asks out. That decision may not come for at least a couple weeks but again, there is no set timetable on how long Lillard is giving the Trail Blazers.

Lillard turns 33 in July and is signed through at least the 25-26 season after signing a two-year, $122 million extension in 2022. Not only did the Blazers draft Scoot Henderson but they also drafted Kris Murray and Rayan Rupert with their later picks.

So that evaluation may be longer than some might think.
