Game Recap
Bulls Get Back To Business
The Bulls got to a great start with an early 10-4 lead, with DeMar DeRozan getting his first points in weeks. But the Lakers were close the lead to one before Lonzo Ball earned his first points of the night with a three-pointer. Vucevic helped the Bulls build their lead to seven with another three-pointer. The Bulls got bench production by Tony Bradley and Alfonzo Mckinnie to lead to eight to finish the first quarter. The score was 28-22 at the end of the first quarter.
LeBron Comes Alive
LeBron led the Lakers in the second half with eight points to get the lead back in the second quarter. A LeBron lineup made the game tied for the first time of the game at 30-30. But the Bulls were able to get a five-point lead at 38-33. Isaiah Thomas got involved with a pull-up three-pointer to get the Bulls lead to four. The Lakers cut the lead to two points for the score to be 61-59 at halftime. At this point of the game, the Lakers figured out they could score whenever they wanted to in the paint. The Lakers had 20 out of 59 points in the paint at the half.
Close Finish
In this close second, both teams went back and forth. But the Lakers held the lead after a Carmelo Anthony third pointer half through the third quarter. A Lonzo Ball shot with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter gave the Bulls the lead. Tyler Cook, who gave some critical minutes for the Bulls, who were short-handed, helped with two free throws to move the lead up to four. But two Carmelo Anthony three-pointers later gave the Lakers the lead back. In the game’s final two minutes, the only person to score significant points for the Bulls was Mr. Fourth Quarter, DeMar DeRozan, who got six points. A couple of defensive stops and two Lonzo Ball free throws sealed the deal.
Final Thoughts
DeMar DeRozan Is Back
With getting 38 points against one of the best teams on paper, DeMar DeRozan needs to be in the MVP conversation. Tonight’s game against the Houston Rockets will test the depth of the Bulls for the next week with still having players in the NBA’s safety and health protocols.
Lakers Struggles Continue
With no Anthony Davis for at least the next four weeks. LeBron will need to lead this team to some wins. This game meant their road trip comes an end and will head home. Head Coach Frank Vogel might miss Tuesday night’s matchup with the red hot Phoenix Suns.
