Did NBA 2K24 Commentary Leak Damian Lillard to Miami?

The NBA’s newest video game NBA 2K24 was released September 8, 2023. The commentary in the game might’ve leaked a trade between the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat.

“And Lillard gets it to go Grant; it’s a long way from Portland to Miami, but for Damian Lillard, it was all about their relative distance from contention. Yeah, and with the Heat, he joins a team that’s made the finals twice in the last four seasons; they’re hoping he’s the missing piece to go the distance.”

Though, no official trade has been made. Lillard has stated that Miami is his preferred destination. Without Lillard, the Heat are not expected to repeat their historic playoff success from last season. Losing both Gabe Vincent and Max Strus hurt those chances.

Some game modes allow players to perform as the general manager: where they can sign, trade and draft players.  One user decided to trade Lillard to Miami, leading to the following commentary:

“What seemed inevitable Greg, Damian Lillard in a Miami uniform, and he made no secret it was his preferred destination. It took some time, but eventually Miami and Portland worked out the deal, a huge move for the Heat.”

NBA Training camps are on the horizon, so maybe a move could be made by then. But the fact that conversations have settled between the two teams has Heat fans grasping at anything for a little hope. Until the Blazers are offered something close to their asking price for Lillard, they’re prepared to enter the season with him on the roster.

Every year though, the NBA 2K24 script can be quite interesting.
