It’s Disrespectful To Say Kobe Bryant Is Not A Top 10 Player

Kobe Bryant is a Legend!

Whether you like him or not, it is very disrespectful to say that Kobe Bryant is not a top 10 player in NBA History. This is coming from someone who is not a Kobe fan or a Laker fan. I am a die-hard, ride-or-die Portland Trail Blazers fan. Kobe Bryant passed away almost a year and a half ago now. When he passed away in his helicopter crash the entire Sports World was devastated, not just the basketball world. That’s the kind of legacy that Kobe had.

When comparing legends and NBA players, it can get very tricky, especially in the Top 10. There have been a lot of greats to ever play the game. Earlier today, a writer by the name of Karl Heiser at Vendetta Sports Media wrote an article saying that Kobe Bryant is not a Top 10 player.

With that being said, I will agree it’s tough to put Kobe in the top 5 because you have Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell. But there is a trick to this when Michael Jordan retired, he gave the baton of “face of the NBA” to Kobe, while later in his career Kobe passed that on to LeBron.

But this man had the audacity to put 5 others (Larry Bird, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, and Hakeem Olajuwon) above Kobe. Don’t get me wrong these guys all make cases for the top 10. But they do not rank higher than Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant is a five-time NBA Champion, 2–time Finals MVP, NBA MVP (1), 18-time all-star, 4-time All-Star Game MVP, and has made an All-NBA team 17 times. Not only, was he great on the offensive side of things but Kobe was also excellent on defense, he made the Defensive All-NBA team on 12 different occasions. He was also the slam dunk champion in 1997 as well as making the All-Rookie second team. His 81 points in a single game still rank second on the all-time list for points in a game.

If you compare that to Larry Bird, sure Bird has more MVPs, but he was only an ALL-STAR GAME MVP Once and he never reached the number of other Accolades that Kobe did. Tim Duncan has equal stats and accolades except for the 81 point game and the number of ALL-STAR Appearances. Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant were good friends and the two actually are similar when it comes to the accolades except for the fact that Magic.

Karl (of Vendetta) had Hakeem Olajuwon, who only has two championships in the top 10. Sure, maybe he was one of the best defensive centers in history, but his accolades don’t show proof that he belongs in the top 10.

So Does Kobe Bryant Belong In The Top 10?

Yes, and that’s not even a question!
