Doc Rivers Bucks

Less than 24 hours ago, the Milwaukee Bucks fired Adrian Griffin, Immediately following that news, it was rumored that the Bucks were in talks with Doc Rivers. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks have now hired the same guy who was advising Griffin.

With a record of 30-13, Rivers will take the team over while they’re in a good spot. We have seen Rivers coach star players such as Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, James Harden and Joel Embiid. However, none of the teams Doc Rivers has coached have a roster as complete as the Bucks. With stars Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the charge, the Bucks are a favorite to win the Eastern conference. They’re surrounded by Brook Lopez (who leads the league in Blocks), Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton and others.

The Bucks decided to make the in-season change due to the belief that a veteran coach would give them a better chance at winning the title. Most recently, Rivers coached the Philadelphia 76ers, who he led to three consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Based on the accomplishments of Rivers, should be able to maximize the roster. The tandem of Lillard and Antetokounmpo should succeed in the system.

Rivers will be looking to win his second title as a coach (first with Boston in 2008). If the Bucks win in 2024, it would be the third championship for the franchise. For some of the veterans on this roster, it would be their second. For Lillard, it would be his first.

Rivers and the Bucks will have some obstacles to overcome, however, and the first one is going to be the defense. They currently rank 22nd in the NBA. Upon hiring Rivers, he will help general manager Jon Horst find a coaching staff that aligns with the organization’s values.
