Doing it for the Dream!!! Atlanta Dream are at home this evening against the Indiana Fever. The Dream are needing to hold on to their playoff hopes. They have missed their key scorers in Asia Durr who is out for the remainder of the season due to hip surgery and Tiffany Hayes who’s out with an ankle injury. Atlanta has been on a 4-game losing streak. A win this evening in the Gateway Arena would shed some light on their playoff hopes and season performance. Rhyne Howard comes out at tip-off with a rainbow from the perimeter to get things started and setting the pace for Atlanta. Cheyenne Parker comes out contributing with two back to back scoring drives giving the Dream the early lead in the 1st. Kristy Wallace and Naz Hillmon give the Dream high momentum and fast pace basketball. This is just what Atlanta needs to build their confidence on the court. What would make the difference in this games summary would be “the communication” says Atlanta coach Tanisha Wright. Meanwhile, the star-rookie Rhyne Howard is continuing to apply pressure to Indiana’s defense as she scores another triple with 5:40 left in the quarter. (11-4 score) Another key scorer to Atlanta ‘s roster is the star guard Maya Caldwell who just recently signed a hardship contract with the team. She was one of the main components in this evening’s game, finishing with 10 points for the night. At the start of the 2nd, the Atlanta Dream kicked things up a notch and were in full throttle with a 19-point deficit. Aari McDonald and Kristy Wallace were truly unstoppable and added fuel to the fire, each contributed a total of 25 points for the club. Atlanta has had 9 fast-break points in the quarter. Kristy Wallace is giving a stellar performance nailing a three for Atlanta at the start of halftime. The Dream are at a 62-34 lead. Throughout the 3rd and 4th quarter, Atlanta continued to build on the dominating lead. Indiana tried to regain composure to chip away at the Dream’s lead with their top scorers for the evening; NaLyssa Smith with 21 points and Emma Cannon with 16 points. The Dream hand the Fever their 15th straight loss with a 91-81 victory. Atlanta holds on to the #5 spot in the Eastern Conference. The Dream’s next game will be against the Sparks at home on Friday night.
