Dolphins Victory Over Patriots Not Surprising

Dolphins Victory Part Of Long History In Miami Against Patriots

The Dolphins victory over the Patriots Sunday was one of the least shocking results. There are a number of good reasons as to why New England lost, and their history in South Beach is the most obvious. New England’s losing to Miami stretches through the whole time Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were together, and now beyond it. Remember this play?

The Miracle in Miami is just one of many examples of the Dolphins beating the Patriots, regardless of the Patriots being the “better team.” Whether the heat, the Dolphins pass rush, or both, made things worse for New England the Patriots now fall to 3-8 since 2012 in Miami. Belichick’s overall 9-14 record in South Florida makes it clear that he may never completely figure out how to win there.

Who Is Running The Patriots Offense?

The Dolphins took advantage of a New England offense that feels rudderless. Bill Belichick claims to be in charge of it, but Matt Patricia and Joe Judge are supposed to be involved as well. Joe Judge, before coaching the New York Giants, was special teams coordinator for New England. Matt Patricia, formerly the Head Coach of the Detroit Lions, was the Patriots defensive coordinator. Josh McDaniels loss as the Patriots offensive coordinator was noticeable Sunday.

Why involve three men who never coached or handled offensive play calling before? New England hurt the Dolphins with outside runs at times, but didn’t stick with it. Kendrick Bourne made a huge 41 yard catch but was not on the field before or after that play. The incoherent game plan makes New England fans wonder who is in charge of the offense? Who can blame them?

Beating The Bills, Not New England, A Bigger Issue For Miami

0-7, that is Miami’s record against the Buffalo Bills the last three and a half seasons. Many fans analysts think Buffalo the favorite to win the AFC and the Super Bowl. The Bills talent showed they are capable of being their at the end. Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams hammered that point home. Josh Allen’s size, mobility, and arm strength present a difficult challenge for the Dolphins defense. The Bills defense, frighteningly, improved with the addition of Von Miller.

While Miami winning 20-7 Sunday feels as if it should have happened, beating Buffalo would mean more. The Bills won the last two AFC East titles, and are heavily favored to win a third. The pieces are in place for them to be at the top of the division for the next few years. Miami rising up to be a contender in the AFC depends on whether or not they are ready to challenge Buffalo. Week three in Miami against them will go a long way to showing whether or not the Dolphins are for real real this year.
