Draymond Green About A Week Away From Return

The NBA reinstated Golden State’s Draymond Green Saturday following his suspension for hitting Phoenix’s Jusuf Nurkic in the face on Dec. 12. With his reinstatement, Draymond Green will begin gearing up for game action and is expected to make his return in about a week, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski added that Green is expected to be with the Warriors on Sunday for the first time since the league issued the suspension last month.

The NBA On Green’s Reinstatement

“During the period of his suspension, which began on Dec. 14 and resulted in him missing 12 games, Green completed steps that demonstrated his commitment to conforming his conduct to standards expected of NBA players,” the NBA said in a statement. “He has engaged in meetings with a counselor and has met jointly on multiple occasions with representatives of the NBA, the Warriors, and the National Basketball Players Association, both of which will continue throughout the season.”

Although there was no timetable for his return, Wojnarowski did provide an update on Green’s suspension near the end of December, saying that he would likely miss 11-13 games. Green missed his 12th and final game due to his suspension on Friday when the Warriors defeated Detroit 113-109. Though his suspension is over, Green will still miss at least the next couple of games as he returns to practice and prepares for his return.

The Warriors have gone 7-5 with Green out. Golden State currently sits a half-game up on the Los Angeles Lakers for the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

The return of Draymond Green should give a significant boost to the Warriors. Golden State will need one after losing Chris Paul for the next four-to-six weeks due to a fractured left hand. Paul suffered the injury in Friday’s game against Detroit. The Warriors are also without Gary Payton II, who suffered a hamstring strain in Tuesday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
