Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras will miss 6-8 weeks with a broken ankle, the team announced Thursday.
Zegras suffered the injury in the first period of Tuesday’s 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators. With a little over six minutes into the game, Zegras skated to the boards to chase after the puck. Nashville’s Juuso Parssinen got to the puck just before Zegras, and as he attempted to clear it out of the zone, his stick got caught underneath Zegras’ left skate. As he fell, Zegras’ skate slid hard into the boards, causing the broken left ankle.
Teammate Urho Vaakanainen and Anaheim’s trainer helped Zegras off the ice. He did not return to the game. Zegras will have surgery on the broken ankle in the near future.
Zegras, 22, has already missed a good chunk of the season with a lower-body injury that caused him to miss 20 games. The 2019 ninth-overall pick has appeared in just 20 games with the Ducks this season, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
In his 200 career NHL games, Zegras has 53 goals and 93 assists. Last season, Zegras had a career-best 65 points in 81 games.
Anaheim’s Pavel Mintyukov To Miss Six Weeks
Zegras was not the only player to get hurt in Tuesday’s game. 2022 10th overall pick Pavel Mintyukov will be out approximately six weeks after he suffered a separated shoulder against the Predators. Mintyukov has two goals and 17 assists in 40 games with the Ducks this season.
The Anaheim Ducks are one of the worst teams in the league this season. They currently have a record of 14-26-1. Anaheim’s 29 points are the third-fewest in the Western Conference and fourth-fewest in the NHL. They have six home wins, tied with the San Jose Sharks for the fewest in the league.
