UFC President Dana White made major fight announcements late Sunday night, revealing a UFC 299 matchup between former Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier and up-and-coming French finisher Benoit Saint-Denis. Poirier recently lost to Justin Gaethje by knockout and will look to bounce back against one of the brightest prospects at 155 pounds. Saint-Denis is a former member of the French special forces and has made a seamless transition into the sport.

UFC 299 is setting up to be a fantastic fight card headlined by a Bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Chito Vera.

With the addition of Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis UFC 299 may be the best fight card of the year. Benoit Saint-Denis has finished five straight opponents since moving down to Lightweight. Just last week Saint-Denis made our Fantom Sports list of fighters to watch in 2024. Now the European grappling champion will have the most important fight of his career. Some of the fights finalized for UFC 299 include:

Sean O’Malley (17-1) vs. Marlon “Chito” Vera (21-8-1)
Curtis Blaydes (17-4) vs. Jailton Almeida (20-2)
Mateusz Gamrot (23-2) vs. Rafael Dos Anjos (32-15)
Gilbert Burns (22-6) vs. Jack Della Maddalena (16-2)
Petr Yan (16-5) vs. Song Yadong (21-7)
Kevin Holland (25-10) vs. Michael Page (21-12)

Some experts believe that UFC 299 could be even better than UFC 300 in April. Hopefully, no fights get scrapped before fight night because this card is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory.

The UFC will return this weekend with a fight night card from the Apex in Las Vegas. Light Heavyweight title contenders Magomed Ankalev (18-1-1) and Johnny Walker (21-7) will be in the Main Event. Ankalev returns after going to a draw with Jan Blachowitz for the World Championship and is currently ranked No. 3 in the division.
