Finally, one of the best uniforms in any sport of all time is set to make its return in the 2023 NFL season. The Eagles Kelly Green uniforms will be on the field for the first time since the 2010 season. Owner Jeffrey Lurie made the announcement at the annual league meeting Tuesday.
After over a decade of being stuffed in the closet, fans might first be wondering what took so long. The problem in the past was the NFL’s one helmet design rule and Lurie subsequently not wanting to mix the midnight green helmet with the Kelly Green uniform. Then NFL abolished that rule before the 2022 season, freeing the old school jerseys from their metaphorical imprisonment.
“This is the season we’ll re-introduce the classic Kelly green and I’m super excited,” Lurie said. “I don’t know what date that’s going to be, but I think the fans will love it. It’s why we’re bringing it back. We really took the feedback seriously over the years, and the first moment we could get the Kelly Green helmet approved, we’ll finally be able to see it on the field.”
As Lurie mentioned above, there is not an official date on when the jerseys will make their return. Fans have made it known that it doesn’t really matter as the overall reception has been incredibly positive. Players photoshopped into fans’ own renditions of the jersey have flooded the internet in anticipation since the announcement.
