Sean Desai

It wasn’t just the postseason that saw the Eagles struggle, they weren’t playing well before the playoffs. According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles have fired their Defensive Coordinator Sean Desai following the downfall.

Following the loss to the Buccaneers, changes were inevitable. It was widely expected that Desai would be fired after he lost the playcalling duties to Matt Patricia during the season. Prior to that, he had lost authority on third-down game calling.

Sean Desai was hired by the Eagles to replace Jonathan Gannon. After the Eagles lost out on making Vic Fangio their defensive coordinator. He has worked his way up through the ranks in the NFL. Prior to 2023, Desai was the Seahawks as an associate head coach & defensive assistant. Under Desai, the Eagles have allowed the third-most points per game during the regular season (25.2) and ranked 30th in red zone and third-down defense. They allowed the second-most touchdown passes in the NFL this season (35).

Handing the playcalling duties over to Patricia didn’t make things better. The Eagles may not be done making changes either. As of now, it appears Nick Sirianni will be back, but both coordinators are likely to be out. According to multiple reports, it was Sirianni who made the decision to fire Desai. Patricia could likely join Desai on the way out. The Eagles OC Brian Johnson has been in the running for HC openings, so Sirianni and the front office could likely be looking for a new coordinator on both sides of the ball.
