Early 2024 NBA free agency rumors are just getting started with the playoffs well underway. Heading into the conference finals the free agency rumors are coming fast and furious. As more teams are eliminated from the tournament news comes out each day. Like each off-season, there are bigger names that headline it every year. Then there will be the players that make up the margins for teams. Here we’ll explore a few players that are slated to possibly hit free agency.
Three Stars Headlining 2024 NBA Free Agency
Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan, and Paul George will headline the 2024 NBA free agency class. George figures to be one of the most prominent free agents of this off-season. Thompson could be on the move from the Bay Area after being there for many seasons. DeRozan will be a free agent and is considered the most unselfish All-Star.
Philadelphia 76ers Will Target Paul George
George will be among the top free agents available this summer. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that George will indeed be their top target of the summer. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 28 points, four rebounds, and two assists. While also shooting 46.1% from the floor. Pairing George with Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid would propel the 76ers to a new level. Above all, George would be a seamless fit and his ability to play off the ball would complement both Embiid and Maxey. Given that, reports are the 76ers will give Maxey a huge contract this off-season. As well as the Sixers will have the ability to create $65 million in cap space to add George. If the 76ers would have had a player like George during their series against the Knicks, they may have been favorites to beat them.
Orlando Magic Have Interest in Klay Thompson
Thompson’s time with the Golden State Warriors may be over after 13 seasons with the team. The Orlando Magic are a young rising team that is targeting Thompson. The Magic have a loaded young roster however, they do not have shooters. Thompson would immediately upgrade this Magic team. However, Thompson averaged his fewest points since the 2012-13 season with 17.8 points. He is still a skilled shooter. During their series against the Cavaliers, they lacked three-point shooting. Thompson could have been a bit of a difference-maker during that series. Forcing a game 7 against the Cavaliers was a huge feat, Thompson could have been the veteran presence to get them over the hump. Orlando already having the defensive prowess shooting should be their number one priority going into the off-season.
DeMar DeRozan Insists on Being In Chicago
DeRozan was at the center of trade deadline rumors amid another just-ok season. Chicago decided to keep him and most importantly DeRozan continues to insist on staying. He expressed his desire to bring winning back to the Bulls and admitted he does not like to bail on tough situations. DeRozan had another quality season averaging 23.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 steals. In fact, he shot 48 percent from the paint and 33 percent from three. If the Bulls want to retain DeRozan it’s going to cost them, in reality, DeRozan has earned any extension he gets. Leads the league in minutes at 37.7 minutes per game and leads in the fourth quarter scoring 7.3 points. In spite of all the issues surrounding this team, DeRozan was the heart and soul of the franchise and wants it to stay that way.
