With a late goal in the 95th minute during the midweek game against Arsenal, Erling Haaland has scored his 33rd goal this season. This feat has officially entered his name into the English football record book for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season. The previous record was held by Mohammed Salah when he scored 32 times in the 2017/2018 season for Liverpool.

The Norwegian struggled the whole game to beat Aaron Ramsdale for the record-shattering score. Only when he let down his hair could he find the precious goal – an iconic moment in EPL history.

Shattering Records, Shattering Doubts

There were many concerns for Erling Haaland when Manchester City announced his move to the Premier League earlier this season. He was injury prone, which was one of the reasons why he couldn’t lay his hand on the Bundesliga scoring record. Plus, the transition to a new league will always take time. From a high-tempo attacking in the Bundesliga to a more gritty Premier League would often mean fewer goals.

But Erling Haaland was on another mission. His strength and physicality shocked the Premier League defenders and fans. He is too fast and too strong to catch. His finishing is clinical, and he can alter his body to adjust to the shot. Haaland is the type of beast made in a lab. The former Dortmund star also had support from one of the most star-studded squads, featuring prolific passers like Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Bernardo Silva. His adaptation to the Premier League was agonizingly quick, and so was his scoring ability.

What’s next for Erling Haaland?

With seven games in hand, Haaland only needs one more goal to tie the legendary Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who bagged 34 goals in the 1990s when there were 22 games in a season. Haaland should easily beat this record with this form.

Another record he could hunt down this season also belongs to Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. They both had 47 goal contributions playing for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle, respectively, and both were achieved in the season when they scored 34 goals. With two assists and a goal against Arsenal, the Norwegian has increased his tally to 40 goal involvements. Seven more in seven games is an achievable figure.

In the longer run, Erling Haaland can be in the running for the total goals record set by Alan Shearer himself. The English legend found the back of the net 260 times in his career in the Premier League. But by the time Haaland comes close to this record, it will probably be Harry Kane to own (if he decides to stay with Tottenham any longer).

The future is ahead for this young man, and surely his name will be next to more records in the coming years.
