Late Sunday Night, the Falcons pulled the trigger and fired Arthur Smith according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It had become uncertain if they would but apparently, the loss to New Orleans was enough for Owner Arthur Blank.

Smith’s tenure started in 2021. Each season he has led the team to a 7-10 record, completing his tenure with a 7-10 record.

“Decisions like this are never easy and they never feel good,” said Blank. “We have profound respect for Coach Smith and appreciate all the hard work and dedication he has put into the Falcons over the last three years. He has been part of building a good culture in our football team, but the results on the field have not met our expectations. After significant thought and reflection, we have determined the best way forward for our team is new leadership in the head coaching position.”

The Falcons will start their search for a new head coach immediately. Like many other teams, they could have eyes on the College Football National Championship. The search will be led by Blank and Rich Mckay but will have some input from General Manager Terry Fontenot, according to Schefter. There is no set timetable as to when the Falcons will have a replacement.

Whoever, the Falcons leadership group bring in, the new coach will inherit three former Top 10 picks: TE Kyle Pitts, WR Drake London and RB Bijan Robinson. With another top 10 pick on the horizon, the future may be set for the new Falcons coach.

Arthur Smith was hired by the Falcons as an offensive-mind but has failed to deliver. Even with the three offensive weapons listed the offense has never finished higher than 15. They’ve also never averaged more than 21 points per season.
