The last time New Jersey Devils fans felt excitement back in their arena was during the 2017-18 playoffs. Since then, the Devils have had nothing but trouble, and it seems they are heading back down that path.

After dropping their season opener to the Flyers 5-2. They headed back to the rock to take on the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

Head Coach Lindy Ruff

Devils fans have not been pleased with how head coach Lindy Ruff has been coaching, and they let him hear it during the team introductions. As a result, Ruff was overwhelmed with thousands of boos from the prudential center crowd.

Vitek Vanecek made his debut between the Devil’s pipes, and Alex Nedeljkovic lined up across from him in the Red Wings crease.

Dougie Hamilton opened the scoring early in the first period as he ripped a shot past Nedeljkovic from the point. But, unfortunately, that is all the action fans received from the first period, as the score remained 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The Redwings came out firing in the second period, as they knotted the game at one at just 1:30 in. Ben Chiarot got the Wings started, and it was his first goal as a Red Wing as he recently made his way over from the Florida Panthers.

In recent years the New Jersey Devils have had trouble holding on to their leads, and that was the case. The second-year Red Wing, Jakub Vrana, put his team ahead 4:34 into the second period.

Miles Wood Carrying the New Jersey Devils

Miles Wood answered back ten seconds later and tied the game at two. Wood recently commented on New Jerseys game one loss to the Flyers that some Twitter users were not very fond of. Wood stated, “I’m just sick and tired of being on a bad team; that’s the thing that stinks the most. Tomorrow is a must-win game for us and it’s my job to get the guys going.” Following his comment, Miles Wood told the media that he talked to the team and coaches after seeing how Twitter responded, and they didn’t take it the wrong way. However, everyone in the organization is frustrated as they all have huge expectations for this season.

Wood did get the guys going after he scored, however, David Perron answered back at the 17:02 mark. The Wings had a 3-2 lead and just when it seemed the Devils were going to escape down one, Wings captain Dylan Larkin scored with 0.08 seconds on the clock.

The Devils deflated heading into the third period as they could not get anything going. Dominik Kubalik and the Wings did though, once again scoring and making it a 5-2 game.

The clock hit zero and the Devils fell to 0-2, a frustrating game that resulted in a frustrating result. The New Jersey Devils are back home on October 18th against Trevor Zegras and the Ducks. When will the Devils get their first win is a common question being asked right now as they have not looked good.
