Week 2 Start ‘Em Running Backs
Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon III @ JAX
Who else had Melvin Gordon III with the fastest run of the week? The Fantasy Football Gods sure did.
Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery vs CIN
Not to be too far out done by Melvin Gordon, David Montgomery also popped off what is now his fastest ball carrying time to date. Both players bring the same types of abilities. Montgomery should easily see 15-20 total touches. The Cincinnati Bengals D-line could have a field day with ole Andy Dalton. To fight that I see Chicago utilizing Montgomery’s excellent hands to keep the Bengals a little honest.
Miami Dolphins RB Myles Gaskin vs BUF
Here is my, as Christopher Harris would say, felxual healing pick for the week. Miami knows what they have in Myles Gaskin. He is athletic with good hands. Thus, he is the perfect dump off option for Tua Tagovailoa to feel confident with. Sure his vision is inconsistent but his positive play ability outweighs some of his “natural running back” abilities. Buffalo will be all over Tua. The Bills are a welcome sight after seeing New England. 12-16 touches for a player with his ceiling could be the tide that lifts your fantasy football team to a week 2 victory.
Week 2 Sit ‘Em Running Backs
Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson vs DEN
James Robinson saw 64% of the total snap count Sunday. Within that time he got 31% (5 attempts) of the rushes and 12% (6 targets) of the receiving work. The most worrying thing here is that Carlos Hyde is the back that Urban Meyer felt more comfortable with. Not looking to overreact, being that it has only been one week. However, Denver is on this week’s slate. Adding the iffy nature of Robinson’s usage to the Denver Broncos legit defense does not inspire confidence.
Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs @ PIT
This is a tough one for me. It comes down to the eye test in week 1. The Pittsburgh Stealers are going to force Derek Carr to throw the ball. Outside of the two touchdowns last week Josh Jacobs was underwhelming. I am seeing this be an actual time share. Kenyan Drake will poach too much from 3rd down and passing situations for me to hang my hat on Josh Jacobs this week.
Week 2 Start ‘Em Wide Receivers
Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams vs DAL
High tide raises all ships. Justin Herbert will make Mike Williams something to be seen this year and help him fulfill his long dormant fantasy football destiny. The former 2017 1.06 pick for the Chargers will find himself in a bit of a shoot out this week with the Dallas Cowboys. The matchup fits him wonderfully. If Williams can find some consistency with his hands then he will be a solid WR2 option.
San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel @ PHI
Deebo Samuel is sneaky. I don’t just mean the way he plays. In fantasy football leagues too. Brandon Aiyuk garnered much of the attention this off season. Looks like Kyle Shanahan has other thoughts. While all of this is going on Deebo Samuel is proving to be a more than viable WR1 for the 49ers. Deebo is out to prove something this year.
Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins @ CHI
This Bengals offense is going to throw and throw they should. Chicago clearly had a hard time with the passing attack from the Rams. The Cincinnati Bengals are not quite on that level but, they have the pieces to be an extremely difficult unit to cover. If the O-line can hold the Joe Burrow to Tee Higgins connection should only strengthen this Sunday.
Week 2 Sit ‘Em Wide Receivers
Carolina Panthers WR Robby Anderson vs NO
Look at what NOLA did to Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Enough said.
Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks @ CLE
Yes. There is not another WR in Houston to really impede his production. What will is Cleveland. They saw the fastest WR they will see all season already in Tyreek Hill. The deep ball that was so kind to Cooks this last week will be slim to none this time around. He has the playmaker ability but I just think Cleveland will be pressing Tyrod Taylor too much to allow for that to develop.
Week 2 Start ‘Em Quarterbacks
Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill @ SEA
Chandler Jones does not play for Seattle. That is what Tannehill has been saying in his bathroom mirror every morning since Sunday. It was week 1 and I feel Ryan Tannehill fell victim to the wonderful weirdness we always see in the first week of the NFL. He is a strong QB with the best talent he has ever had around him. He has another prime matchup and should take advantage of it.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts vs SF
There you have it. Jalen Hurts is the next Donovan McNabb. The Eagles are winning the NFC the next 5 years. Sorry, was in Philadelphia for a day and it appears the random street talk has polluted my brain. This week could only strengthen the punch it seemed everyone was drinking. Every position at Jalen Hurts disposal is a legit receiving threat. This will be a very difficult game as the 49ers are on their own playoff bound journey. If Hurts can keep his composure the Philly proud may actually have some validity to their ramblings.
Week 2 Sit ‘Em Quarterbacks
Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan @ TB
As much as I would like to see this be a shoot out, I don’t truly think it will. Matt Ryan always has the high potential with the offense he has to give a respectable fantasy football point total. I am viewing him as a break glass in case of emergency this week.
Houston Texans QB Tyrod Taylor @ CLE
If you are starting Tyrod Taylor then you may be in one of those aforementioned “break glass” situations. Much of what I have already stated for Brandin Cooks applies here as well. He may be able to scamper his way to a respectable week but I foresee more errors than highlight escapes.
Week 2 Start ‘Em Tight Ends
New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith @ NYJ
This is what he will be doing all season. This will be happening in the red zone more frequently.
He is the TE1 their now. Zach Ertz is still dealing with injury issues. Dallas Goedert is Jalen’s end zone presence. He is going to be needed to pull the Eagles past San Francisco.
Week 2 Sit ‘Em Tight Ends
Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki vs BUF
This might be a consensus wherever you take in your fantasy football info. I am not in the boat of if he does not perform this week then panic. However, I would be a fool if I didn’t start taking precautions in places he is my TE1.
LA Chargers TE Jared Cook vs DAL
I stand by my earlier statement of the high tide raises all ships. With that being said, I also still believe the Cowboys have a great lineup to stop TEs. They got their rude awaking last week against Gronk. Many others will feast against Dallas but Jared Cook may be left with some scraps.
