The 2022/2023 season has come to a close in England with plenty of surprises. Arsenal’s young core broke out to challenge Manchester City for the title but fell short of the reigning champion in the end. On the flip side of the table, we bid farewell to Southampton, Leeds United, and Leicester City. The race for European football was down-to-the-wire, with the appearance of new forces like Newcastle United, Brighton, and Aston Villa, while perennial European Cup participations Tottenham and Chelsea disappointed massively. During the course of the season, some players have stood out among the rest to help their team achieve their goals. Let’s look at the Premier League Team of the Season by Fantom Sports.

David De Gea’s lightning reflexes saved Manchester United plenty of time in the crucial moments to secure them a top-four spot. The Spanish goalkeeper kept a clean sheet 17 times this campaign – most in the league – and won the Golden Gloves Award.

The Ecuador international has been the bright spark for the Seagulls on the left-hand side. His overlapping runs with Kaoru Mitoma to go alongside his powerful shots and crossing ability booked Brighton a spot in the Europa League next season.

At the moment, Ruben Dias has been the most solid defender in the Premier League, if not in the world. The Portuguese center-back was irreplaceable in the title-defending run for the Cityzens.

DF: Sven Botman (Newcastle United)

Coming over after winning the Ligue 1 with Lille a couple of seasons ago, Sven Botman brought with him the winner mentality to the Premier League. His great adaptability made him an indispensable piece in Newcastle’s backline.

Proper captain performances throughout the season by Kieran Trippier! The Englishman led the most interesting squad of this season to a top-four finish thanks to his chance-creating. Seven assists were testaments to his class.

Despite Liverpool missing out on Champions League football next season, we cannot discredit the type of season Mohammed Salah just had. Double figures in both goals and assists while adapting to new attacking partnerships. World-class!

MF: Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)

Martin Odegaard was the heart and soul of a breakthrough Arsenal team this season. The skipper led the team in goals (alongside Gabriel Martinelli) and was crucial to every build-up from the Gunners.

MF: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

Has this title solidified Kevin De Bruyne a spot in the Premier League Hall of Fame, or even the best Premier League midfielder of all time? The Belgian was pure magic during the season, providing 16 assists (league-leading), and looked as if he didn’t even try his best. His clutch goals against Arsenal also sealed City the precious prize.

MF: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Arsenal starboy is well-deserved a spot in the Premier League Team of the Season. He is one of two players to record double-digit goals and assists this season, next to Mohammed Salah. Saka was a joy to watch down the right flank of the Gunners.

FW: Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Premier League Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season. Record-breaking 36 goals in a season, not to mention eight assists. Title winner. Need more to say about Erling Haaland? The Norwegian beast not only joined elite companies, but he also created his own.

FW: Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Haaland’s monster campaign really downplayed Harry Kane’s impressive season. The English captain scored 30 goals for the second time in his career but didn’t win the Golden Boot on both occasions. Kane scored in a record 26 different matches but couldn’t help secure a dismantled Tottenham European football spot. But he still deserved to be in the Premier League Team of the Season.
