The Shamrock Seris game this season was one of Notre Dame’s best games of the year. Notre Dame Fighting Irish dominated Wisconsin Badgers by winning 41 to 13.
Wisconsin’s Quarterback Woes
Wisconsin seems like their quarterback situation is in dire straights. They need to figure a way to get Graham Mertz more comfortable in the pocket or start their back up. Mertz did have one touchdown in the third quarter but had five total turnovers. He threw four interceptions and had a fumble. Wisconsin does not seem like they even have a backup quarterback because even after two interceptions, they kept Mertz in the game.
Another Great Defensive Game For The Fighting Irish
Notre Dame had another great defensive game. They held Wisconsin to only 13 points and 78 rushing yards. Notre Dame looked like they did in week one. They had four interceptions and two of them were returned for touchdowns. Jack Kiser and Drew White were the two that returned them for touchdowns. Notre Dame’s defense is looking good and needed to get back on track with a game like this.
The Fighting Irish’s Quarterback Situation
Jack Coan still does not seem like the quarterback that he was during the first game of the season. With all the injuries to the offensive line, Coan does not have much time in the pocket. With that being said, Coan is not a mobile quarterback so escaping the pocket is not the best thing he can do. Coan do did go down with an injury in the third quarter. He was replaced by Drew Pyne who is a more mobile quarterback. Pyne came in and had a pretty good game with 81 yards and one touchdown. Pyne is what Notre Dame needed to finish that game off and hopefully, he gets more playing time in the next coming weeks.
Badger’s Defense
Wisconsin had a great defensive game even though the score shows different. Their defensive game was not as great as Notre Dame’s, but they did stop Notre Dame from gaining many yards. They only allowed three total rushing yards and had one forced fumble that they recovered. In addition, their defense held the two Notre Dame quarterbacks to negative yards. They held Coan to negative nineteen yards and Pyne to negative sixteen yards. The defense carried Wisconsin into the third quarter and then couldn’t hold it in the fourth.
Final Thoughts
Notre Dame finally got a big win under their belt. They have shown the country that they can win big games and also win them big. Wisconsin has shown that they are not a great team. Their defense looks good but they need to figure out their offense because it is holding them back.
The Fighting Irish play #8 Cincinnati next week.
The Badgers play #19 Michigan next week.
