On a list like this, it’s easy to put players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Nikola Jokic at the top of the list. So heading into the new season here is a list of NBA Players to Watch who are not your typical stars listed at the top of rankings year in and year out:
Tyrese Haliburton – Indiana Pacers
The Pacers Point Guard is a player on the rise. After being named an All-Star last year and averaging a double-double with 20.7 points and 10.4 points. The Pacers seem to be in good hands here with Haliburton leading the way. Can they surround him with team to compete in the near future?
Anthony Edwards – Minnesota Timberwolves
The top 10 shooting guard led Team USA to many victories in the FIBA World Cup. Though, they ultimately fell short on the goal of bringing home the gold. You have to wonder if Edwards can improve more this next season. If so, by how much? Could he lead the Timberwolves to a deep playoff run?
Scoot Henderson – Portland Trail Blazers
The situation in Portland is rather interesting. How long will Damian Lillard be a Blazer? Will he actually play and if he does, what does that mean for Henderson? Henderson likely would have been in the running to be a top pick in many other draft classes.
Chris Paul – Golden State Warriors
Paul is going to be an interesting player heading into the new season. He’s 38 years old, but the Warriors don’t need him to score. They just need him to be a playmaker. If he can be that, the Warriors will have the original incarnation of the Splash Brothers offense with both Curry and Klay Thompson off-ball catch-and-shoot threats.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – Oklahoma City Thunder
SGA officially reached stardom last season. A first-time All-Star and a member of an All-NBA roster. He’s got so much more room to improve though, as we saw in the FIBA World Cup. I believe he’ll take that step in the 2023-2024 season. The rebuild is over and next up is for this team to be top in the west.
