Randy Arozarena Trade

Randy Arozarena has been making a name for himself as one of the best outfielders in all of baseball. A lot of the Rays’ success has come from the slugger. Per reports, the popularity and skillset have led to teams being interested in trading for him. The Rays aren’t currently looking to trade Randy Arozarena, but they are listening to offers. It could be something they eventually consider due to financial reasons.

The Rays are still looking to compete in 2024 which would give them a reason to keep the 28-year-old. An outfield without Arozarena would still be a playoff-caliber outfield featuring Jose Siri, Manuel Margot and Josh Lowe. If the Rays decide to trade him, they could add another outfielder. However, they also need starting pitching. The rotation is a concern that needs to be addressed even if Tyler Glasnow isn’t moved. Each of Shane McClanahan, Drew Rasmussen and Jeffrey Springs are expected to miss some time due to significant elbow surgeries. Even if they don’t get an outfielder through the trade, they could add one in free agency.

Seattle Mariners

It’s been rumored that the Mariners aren’t looking to spend money. However, they don’t have to with a trade. They are a team on the rise after breaking the playoff drought in 2022. One major thing that Jerry Dipoto and company have always looked at in trades is contract control. Arozarena still has two years of control and is only set to $9MM for the 2024 season. A major thing that the Mariners are looking forward to eliminating is their amount of strikeouts. That’s a major reason that they traded third baseman Eugenio Suarez. Arozarena would be a guy who strikes out significantly less. The Mariners would be a perfect candidate for the Rays if they look to trade Randy Arozarena. They Mariners have young controllable pitchers like Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo and Emerson Hancock as well as a young outfielder in Jarred Kelenic who could make an impact now.

Trade Proposal: Kelenic, Woo, SP Michael Morales and Round A PPI Draft Pick for Arozarena and Brayden Taylor

San Diego Padres

If the Padres end up moving either Fernando Tatis or Juan Soto, they’re going to want to add someone to fill the gap. The Padres are in a position to win and want sluggers in their lineup. They seem likely to be looking for a suitable trade partner for Soto. It appears that they have been talking with the Yankees, but the two sides appear to be far apart. The Padres could look to free agency for a replacement for Soto, but they could also gauge what the Rays asking price would be if they were to trade Randy Arozarena.

Trade Proposal: SP Robby Snelling, 3B Graham Pauley, OF Jose Azocar, OF Dillon Head for Arozarena

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have a big hole in left field and they could look to fill it by acquiring Arozarena. The Rays slugger would be a significant upgrade over Chris Taylor, who is projected to be the starter in 2024. In previous postseason appearances, the Dodgers’ bats have floundered in the postseason. Arozarena has been heroic in the postseason and could provide a spark in the Dodgers lineup. The 2021 Rookie of the Year could also provide speed on the base paths, something the Dodgers lacked in 2023. Their stolen base leader was Freddie Freeman, who ranked in the 34th percentile.

Trade Proposal: SP Maddux Bruns, SP Nick Frasso and OF Andy Pages for Arozarena

Kansas City Royals

The Royals don’t have nearly enough to offer as the rest of these teams do, but the Rays might look to replace Wander Franco. The Rays shortstop prospects are years away so that could be a position they target. It’s unlikely that the Royals trade Bobby Witt Jr., he appears to be the future at shortstop. However, they could target Maikel Garcia. The Royals have looked at moving him to third base, but he doesn’t have the power to stay there. They have many young controllable pitchers in the minors as well, which could be an option.

Trade Proposal: Garcia, Angel Zerpa and Alec Marsh for Arozarena

Miami Marlins

In the first season with Skip Schumaker leading the way, the Marlins reached the National League Wildcard. They’ll be looking to build on that and could replace either Bryan De La Cruz or Jesus Sanchez. The Marlins have depth at the starting pitcher position. They could expend one of their rising stars who are under team-friendly deals for Arozarena. A small-market team like the Marlins shouldn’t be counted out.

Trade Proposal: SP Edward Cabrera, SS Yiddi Cappe and OF Sanchez for Arozarena
