Ohio State starting quarterback Kyle McCord transferring to Syracuse in a shocking move by entering the portal after a good first year as the starter. McCord is looking to shake up the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) by helping Syracuse build a good foundation, along with newly hired head coach Fran Brown.
McCord led the Buckeyes in 2023 to an 11-1 record, along with throwing for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions, along with finishing 8th in quarterback rating. (83.7) via ESPN
In an overall perspective McCord had an absolute case to be a finalist for the Heisman, but playing for the Buckeyes comes with a lot of expectations. In addition, McCord did come up short against Michigan in the “Big Game” in the heated rivalry.
I believe McCord transferring to Syracuse will help his case as a top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. Equally more important, McCord can show that he is pro-ready by leading Syracuse to a potential ACC Championship game next year if he can duplicate this past season into next year.
ACC Shakeup
The ACC has been dominated by programs like Clemson and Florida State as of late. However, Syracuse has finally put the pieces together in hopes of being able to recruit better. In addition, they hired the best recruiter in the country as their next head coach.
The ACC has had amazing quarterback play over the past ten years with guys like Matt Ryan, Trevor Lawrence, Jameis Winston, Philip Rivers, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson. Furthermore, McCord could add himself to this historic list by leading the Orange to an ACC Championship game.
Shifting Career Expectations
In addition, McCord has proven the critics just like myself that he has the desire and can play at the NFL level. The only thing that was hurting him was the massive expectations of Ohio State who has successful quarterbacks over the past decade. McCord can easily make his name as one of the best Orange football players ever and show how good he truly is by lifting the Syracuse program.
Furthermore, with the ACC being open and not having a clear front-runner, Syracuse can easily jump ahead with the great foundation they built. I expect Syracuse to be in the ACC Championship next year.
Lastly, with Kyle McCord transferring to Syracuse first, he can change the outcome of his career, and second he can be labeled a star within the Orange fanbase.
