The former Mississippi State Bulldog will be in Seattle next season after all. On Dec. 16, Will Rogers had announced that he’d be heading to the Pacific Washington, where at the time Kalen DeBoer was the coach at Washington. After the departure of DeBoer, Rogers had announced he would be reentering the portal.
The quarterback informed the Huskies’ new coach Jedd Fisch about his decision to stay on Tuesday. He also resumed classes according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Will Rogers is headed to Washington after four productive seasons in the SEC. While with the Bulldogs, he became the SEC’s No.2 all-time leading passer. Upon reentering the portal, Rogers had talked with multiple teams. After 11 days, he decided that UW would be the right choice for him.
“Some of the guys at Washington,” he told ESPN. “The team went 14-1 last year. If we can pick up where we left off, obviously it’s going to be a tough task. But I think it’s why you come to Washington.”
There’s a big positive in playing for a guy like Fisch. He’s an offensive playcaller with loads of experience in the NFL and College Football. Rogers wants to make it to the next level, so playing for a guy with experience makes a lot of sense. If he has a productive season much like the ones that Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr did, then he could see his draft stock rise heading into the 2025 Draft. Not only that, but he would finish at the college level with a top-five career in history.
Rogers threw for 12,315 yards with 94 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in four seasons with Mississippi State. He tallied the second-highest passing yard total in SEC history.
