
FP2 in Abu Dhabi had Hamilton with the time 1min 23.691 secs in P1. His team mate, Valtteri Bottas was in P3. However, the surprising pace came from the guy in P2 – Esteban Ocon who was only 0.3 secs slower than the seven-time world champion.
The Red Bull drivers saved the spot for fourth with Verstappen and fifth with Perez. Alonso – who got a podium finish in Qatar – was in P6. He was followed by Tsunoda and the Ferrari drivers. Pierre Gasly sealed the top ten.
Kimi Raikkonen brought out the red flag at the end of FP2. He crashed heavily at Turn 14 after the chequered flag had been waved.
Bottas banged his Mercedes’s right rear in the barrier at Turn 14. He also had a huge lock up around half time.
Alpine was putting great performance with Ocon and Alonso. Ocon, however had an issue with his headrest initially in the session.
“The bumps on the side of the headrest are bigger than usual.”, he said.
A yellow flag appeared momentarily when Williams’ Latifi damaged his rear wing by hitting the barrier at Turn 13.
Drivers again lost lap times as they went past the track limits at Turn 16.
McLaren boys were the only one starting FP2 on softs. Lando Norris spent some time in the garage as his mechanics worked through his front wing. He was at P11. His teammate, Daniel Ricciardo was at P13.
George Russell was back in his Williams for FP2. He put his car in P17 and Latifi was at P18. The Haas rounded up the list with Mick in P19 and Nikita in P20.
