After brandishing a gun on Instagram Live, the star point guard again finds himself in hot water. The Memphis Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant from all team activities after the video surfaced. The NBA made a statement that they are aware and correspondingly gathering more information about the situation.
Morant appeared to pull out a gun while listening to music in a friends’ car. The Instagram account in which they went live under was Davonte Pack’s, who is in fact a friend of Morant.
Just two months ago, the NBA suspended Morant from the league for similar reasons. In March, checked into a counseling program after video surfaced of him with a gun at a strip club. After he finished his suspension that wound up being eight games, Morant showed remorse for his actions. Afterwards, he said he realized he has to be “more responsible, more smarter and staying away from all the bad decisions.”
It’s not the first time Pack is involved with a controversy surrounding his friend Morant either. Pack was banned from being at Grizzlies games in the FedEx Forum following an aggressive encounter with the Indiana Pacers. Pack was shouting with some Pacers players and subsequently was led out of the building after setting foot on court.
It’s unclear what direction the NBA will take, but they’ll likely uphold the Grizzlies suspension of Morant. The NBA will also likely have their own punishment for the point guard, but it’s unclear as to what.
