It’s been 179 days since the last NFL game when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55. However, the wait ends tonight when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game.
Though it is a preseason game, and the stars of each team will not participate. Tonight’s game is a prime opportunity for coaches to evaluate the talent of their roster in a competitive environment.
Previewing the Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is planning to use tonight’s game as a way of trying to figure out how many snaps come Saturday and a duel practice with the Rams,
“I think the most important thing is we want to go out and compete, go out and establish our place now as a football team. But I definitely am factoring in Saturday’s work. We’re looking at the combination of Thursday’s work and Saturday as one. We’re trying to find some balance in those reps. So the snaps on players on Thursday’s game will definitely be tied to their projected snaps in Saturday’s practice.”

However, the Cowboys did announce that 16 players will not be making the trip to Canton. Most notably, Dak Prescott who is coming off a season-ending compound fracture. So, tonight’s game will be a chance for the Cowboys to figure out who will back Prescott this season.
Previewing the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers come into tonight’s game trying to figure out their quarterback situation behind Ben Roethlisberger. Tonight’s game will be key as the Steelers are trying to figure out a plan for the future after Roethlisberger retires. Though Mason Rudolph will start the game, it will be interesting to see how many snaps Dwyane Haskins will get tonight. However, as the Cowboys are not sending part of the roster to Canton, the Steelers, on the other hand, will have more players available. The starters are not expected to play the whole game, but it will be interesting to see how Tomlin manages his roster in the preseason opener.
The Hall of Fame Game will start at 8:00 on Fox.
