Ja Morant cannot get out of his way off the court. After reports came out recently of the superstar point guard involved in violent altercations, Ja Morant flashed a gun on his Instagram Live on March 3. Per Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA is investigating the situation.
If the public opinion hasn’t shifted enough on Morant, he alienated NBA fans even more after this latest stunt. The general public is reacting as one would imagine, with severe heckling and mocking. The problem has gotten so bad that the Grizzlies are having him step away from the team for at least their next two games. It is unclear if that is a direct result of the NBA investigation.
This month’s fourth reported disturbing incident revolves around Morant’s actions. In early February, the NBA investigated Morant and his inner circle for “pointing a laser” at members of the Pacers at an Indiana Club. The NBA and police investigated Morant’s group because they aggressively approached those traveling with the Pacers near the Indiana team bus. On March 2, it was reported that Ja Morant flashed a gun at a teenager and struck him in the head in July 2022. The police could not confirm firearm use, and Morant’s party was adamant the teen was the aggressor. Jim Tanner, Morant’s agent, confirmed the reports.
“Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated,” Tanner said. “This includes the NBA investigation last month, in which they found no evidence.”
The other altercation in July 2022 started when Morant got into an altercation with one of the store employees. Morant’s mother called Morant and then showed up with around nine friends. After security asked the group to leave, someone shoved a security officer.
Morant will now be at the league’s mercy due to his actions. It might prove to be a good thing when it’s all said and done. Morant is an elite talent on the court and, as such, has earned a lot of fame and fortune from his peers. So much so that Powerade signed him to an athlete partnership, the company’s first in half a decade. But Powerade, the NBA, the Grizzlies, etc., do not want to be associated with Morant’s antics for apparent reasons. As a basketball player, he can help others, and himself thrive. But, on a professional and mature level, he has a lot of work to do. The Grizzlies will hope to help, but one can’t imagine they’re excited about the timing as the playoffs loom.
Morant released the following statement earlier this morning.
