Now that a season that was full of drama and disappointment has concluded, it is time for Jacksonville fans to look to the future. Here is a look at the Jaguars 2022 NFL Mock Draft:
ROUND 1 PICK 1
EVAN NEAL, T ALABAMA
While the Jaguars’ offensive line did exceed expectations and played considerably well, Evan Neal is too good to pass up. From his split box jump to his amazing versatility, to his incredible strength, Neal could be the permanent left tackle to protect Trevor Lawrence. While weapons for someone like Lawrence are great, they serve no purpose if your quarterback has no time to throw the ball to them. If Jacksonville finds the right head coach, this could be a much-improved offense in 2022.
ROUND 2 PICK 33
TREYLON BURKS, WR ARKANSAS
It may be a stretch to think Burks will still be available to lead off the second round of the draft. There are potentially six first-round quality receivers, so this scenario is possible. At the end of the day, Lawrence needs a number one receiver. Many times during last season no matter how much time Lawrence was given in the pocket, he had no one to throw to. Burks showed the ability to not only get open but make big plays after the catch. This would give Lawrence not only a sure-handed target but also a big-play receiver.
ROUND 3 PICK 65
NIK BONITTO, ED OKLAHOMA
With the offensive side of the ball addressed in the first two rounds, now would be the perfect time for the Jaguars to up their pass rush. Josh Allen flashed the ability to wreck games, most notably against Josh Allen and the Bills, but he needs someone opposite of him to wreak havoc. Bonitto totaled 15.5 sacks in his last two seasons in Norman. This consistent pass rush could help a pass rush that averaged less than two sacks a game up their numbers in a big way next year.
ROUND 3 PICK 70
WAN’DALE ROBINSON, WR KENTUCKY
With a big consistent receiver addressed earlier in the draft, Jacksonville now could go with a do-it-all type of receiver. This is where Wan’Dale Robinson comes into the conversation. Robinson’s ability to get yards after the catch is just what the Jaguars’ offense needs. While Robinson’s speed is what you draft him for, he also is a good route runner, and he is very tough for his size. This explosiveness could help Lawrence and company get bigger plays with more regularity next season.
ROUND 4 PICK 103
BRYAN COOK, S CINCINNATI
Andre Cisco had a solid rookie campaign for the Jaguars last year. Now Jacksonville needs someone do pair with Cisco. A good fit would be Bryan Cook, one of the overshadowed playmakers in Cincinnati’s uber talented secondary. Cook has great instincts, and he also possesses the ability to come up in run support.
ROUND 5 PICK 153
AMARE BARNO, ED VIRGINIA TECH
Although his stats won’t jump off the page, Barno is a talented, versatile player. A former linebacker converted to an edge rusher, he would give Jacksonville someone who could not only rush the passer, but also drop into coverage.
ROUND 6 PICK 179
ALONTAE TAYLOR, CB TENNESSEE
This is when depth pieces begin to have value. While Taylor may not be seen as an immediate starter at cornerback, the ability to go from a special teams player to someone who begins to play more and more is always there.
ROUND 6 PICK 188
JALEN REDMOND, DL OKLAHOMA
Jacksonville already has solid defensive tackles, but Redmond could provide depth at the position. Redmond totaled 10 sacks in his last two years at Oklahoma.
ROUND 6 PICK 196
BEN BROWN, G MISSISSIPPI
Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs selected an SEC guard in the sixth round. That man was Treey Smith, and he went on to be an exceptional started. The right guard position could be a goof fit for Ben Brown.
ROUND 6 PICK 197
DARIEN BUTLER, LB ARIZONA STATE
Butler showed flahes of excellence in both the pass and run game. As the NFL continually moves to a pass-heavy style, a linebacker that can play against both is crucial.
ROUND 7 PICK 218
TANNER MCKEE, QB STANFORD
With so many picks in this year’s draft (11) Jacksonville might as well give Lawrence a backup. Now that Gardner Minshew is gone, Tanner McKee could step into the role.
