The Red Sox are on a roll so far this Spring after today’s tie against the Houston Astros. If we are including the win against Northeastern College, the Sox are up to four wins and two tie games. Overall, the pitching squad and lineup looks solid. There has been quality at-bats along with quick and effective pitching from both the rotation and bullpen. While it’s still early, things are looking good, and there is still a pitcher who is due to make his debut with the Red Sox. That pitcher is James Paxton.
Paxton is scheduled to make his first Red Sox appearance this Friday against the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers. He is looking to bounce back after missing several seasons due to Tommy John surgery. Paxton is also missed last season due to suffering from a Grade two lat-tear.
Remaining Healthy Will Be Key for James Paxton
James Paxton signed with the Red Sox in December 2021, but has yet to make an appearance due to recovering from Tommy John surgery. Paxton hasn’t pitched a full season since 2019 with the Yankees, so it will be an interesting sight to see him back on the mound after four years.
In his last full season in 2019, Paxton posted a 3.82 ERA with a 1.281 WHIP and a 15-6 record over 150.2 innings pitched. If his numbers resemble as they did in 2019, he will make a solid 4-5 starter in this Red Sox rotation.
If healthy, James Paxton can be a vital piece of the pitching staff. Along with other veterans, Chris Sale and Corey Kluber, Paxton is looking to bounce back strongly in the later half of his career. The mix of the veterans and young arms in this rotation has the potential to be nasty when running on all cylinders.
The start time of Friday’s game is at 1:05pm EST and can be watched on NESN.
