Jayson Tatum Boston Celtics

Celtics star player Jayson Tatum has finally helped lead the Boston Celtics to their 18th championship. Now, Jayson Tatum is being rewarded with a five-year $314 million dollar extension. Tatum now is the NBA’s highest-paid player in league history, taking over from his teammate Jaylen Brown who signed a 5 year, $286 million contract last offseason.

For his entire career, Jayson Tatum has battled critics in the media every year. After proving them wrong by winning the NBA championship this year, the question is, is he worth being the NBA’s first $300 million dollar player? Quick answer…YES.

Worthy of $314 Million

The six-time all star now has earned the right being the NBA’s highest-paid player because he has simply has had a career that only a few players have accomplished, yet he’s only 26 years old and still has about 10 more years or so left in the league.

Furthermore, Tatum has made the playoffs every year since getting drafted in 2017. He’s reached two NBA Finals and is just coming off winning his first NBA championship. Since entering the league, Tatum is No. 1 in Playoff wins, No. 1 in playoff games, No. 1 in playoff points, No. 1 in playoff field goals, and first in playoff free throws. As well, Tatum just became the sixth player in NBA history to lead his team in points, rebounds, and assists during a championship run.

Not only is Tatum the highest-paid NBA player ever, but he is now the second highest-paid athlete right behind Shohei Ohtani in the four American major sports for Average Annual value, with his contract.

Many believe when paying your star players a lot of money it will be tricky to win more championships. However, the Celtics managed to pay their core players before signing Jayson Tatum to his supermax extension.

Lastly, Tatum has shown in the biggest of stages that he deserves the full $314 million dollar extension.
