The Minnesota Twins and the Miami Marlins are in agreement on a trade that is sending Luis Arraez to Miami in exchange for Pablo Lopez and prospects. The two prospects included in the trade are shortstop Jose Salas and outfielder Byron Chourio. Arraez, who was the American League batting champ in 2022, is seen as the main piece in the trade. The Marlins have been floating the idea of trading Pablo Lopez all winter. It was rumored that the asking price for Lopez was too high for a few teams. But it seems that the Twins didn’t have to give up much for the pitcher, as they are also getting two solid prospects in the deal.

Luis Arraez had a very good season in 2022. This past year, he hit .316/.375/.420 with eight home runs and 31 doubles. He collected his first batting title, made his first all-star appearance, and came 13th in MVP voting.

Jazz Chisholm Is Moving To The Outfield.

This trade between Minnesota and Miami is already being seen as one sided. The Twins are wise for trading Arraez this winter. While in 2022 he was the batting champ and an all star, it’s safe to believe this is the highest his value will be. On top of this, Miami is giving up one of their best starting pitchers along with two prospects. This is interesting given that they were reportedly asking too much from other teams.

This trade also means that Miami has too many infielders. The Marlins infield now consists of: Jazz Chisholm, Jean Segura, Joey Wendle, Garrett Cooper, and now Luis Arraez. Or so we thought.

Per Marlins GM, Kim Ng, the team is looking to move superstar second baseman Jazz Chisholm to center field. Chisholm has played the entirety of his career at second base or shortstop. This move means that Luis Arraez will be taking over at second base full time with Jean Segura moving to third base. The transition from the infield to the outfield is always an interesting one. We’ve seen it in the past couple years with Fernando Tatis Jr. moving to the outfield in San Diego. Now we are seeing another star infielder make the transition in Jazz Chisholm.
