One of the most underrated defensive tackles just got a bag. Jeffery Simmons agreed to a four $94 million year contract extension. Simmons announced it on Twitter.
Jeffery Simmons followed up his 2021 performance with another terrific season. Simmons made his second All-Pro team and his second pro bowl selection. He’s arguably the best defensive player for the Titans with seven and a half sacks, 54 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. He is also ranked as the ninth-best defense lineman by Pro Football Focus last season.
This what a top priority for the Titans as they let go of multiple key veterans that past couple of seasons. Starting with the trading of AJ Brown trade last season and cutting Taylor Lewan, Robert Woods, and Bud Dupree right before the start of free agency. Most of these moves were to clear up cap space, but they haven’t been able to do anything with it in signing free agents. Simmons was on the last year of his rookie deal so it was nice to get this done when the Titans are somewhat rebuilding under new general manager Ran Carthon. Although larger decisions roam ahead.
