One of the most expected coaching hires in quite some time, has now come to fruition. The Los Angeles Chargers are bringing in Jim Harbaugh on a five-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Harbaugh heads back to the NFL after a 10-year hiatus. With Harbaugh headed to LA, it now could cause another ripple across the College Football landscape.

His ability to be successful at any level made him a desirable candidate. He had garnered some interest amongst other teams at the NFL level, but he’ll head to LA where he’ll have a franchise QB already. The pairing of Harbaugh and Justin Herbert could do wonders in the NFL. The 60-year-old is a quarterback coach and he knows what he’s doing.

The departure comes after Harbaugh led the Michigan Wolverines to their first National Championship since 1997. He’ll finish with an 86-25 as the Michigan.

In his time with the 49ers from 2011-14, Harbaugh led them to a 44-19-1 record. He was named the NFL’s Coach of the Year leading them to Super Bowl 47 where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

We’ll see a matchup between the Harbaugh brothers (John and Jim). As of now that date is unclear.

The former Chargers quarterback (Jim Harbaugh, 1999-2000) comes into a scenario the same as he did with the 49ers. A rebuilding team that had tumbled from the NFL’s elite. The Chargers are coming off a 5-12 season and only have three playoff wins since 2008.

After firing Brandon Staley the Chargers went through an extensive search to find their next coach. Interviewing a total of 15 candidates. The biggest question surrounding that search was whether or not Dean Spanos was willing to spend money.
