Every year, its amusing to see how many Hot Dogs people can scarf down. Eating Contests have become a tradition here in America. Joey Chestnut ranks at the top of the list for best contestants all-time. The 16-time champion won’t be competing in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest on July 4 this year. Rumors started swirling on Tuesday that Chestnut had inked a deal with a company that makes plant-based franks.
“For nearly two decades we have worked under the same basic hot dog exclusivity provisions,” the MLE statement said. “However, it seems that Joey and his managers have prioritized a new partnership with a different hot dog brand over our long-time relationship.”
According to his personal Twitter (X) account, Joey Chestnut has been training to get ready for this year’s event. He takes pride in being a defending champion. Most importantly, he loves celebrating America with all of his fans. He also stated that he doesn’t have a contract with Major League Eating or with Nathan’s and that they are changing the rules on who he can partner with.
Since 2005, Chestnut has demolished over a thousand hot dogs in the event. So banning Chestnut from competing over an endorsement deal he made is ridiculous. Especially, if he says that he’s not under contract is true.
This will mark the first time in two decades that we won’t see Chestnut and his renowned jaws on Coney Island on July 4. However, being banned from Nathan’s Hot Dogs won’t stop him from competing. Fans may not have to be deprived from seeing him this year.
Just a day after the scandal took place and Chestnut was banned from Nathan’s, there are reports that he may be going one-on-one with his old rival former world champion Takeru Kobayashi in a live competition that is set to air on Netflix.
