Former Craftsman Truck Series Champion John Hunter Nemechek finds his way to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas. Nemechek’s teammate, Chandler Smith, dominated most of the race, winning the first two stages. But a late green flag run in the final stage allowed Nemechek to take the lead and never look back. By the time he took the checkered flag, Nemechek had a more than four second lead over second place Cole Custer.

Nemechek led a race high 99 laps en route to his tenth career NASCAR Xfinity Series win. He’s not eligible for championship points, because he’s racing for the Monster Energy Cup Series title. That means no one from this race automatically qualifies for the playoffs.

Nemechek’s win proved to be a big moment in NASCAR’s automaker battles. Chevrolet swept the first two weekends of the NASCAR season and won the truck race Friday night. Nemechek gave Toyota their first points win of the 2024 season in any of the NASCAR series. Toyota won the preseason races with Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell at the wheel. Ford still hasn’t won a race in the 2024 season.

The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series drivers take center stage in Las Vegas Sunday. Coverage starts at 3:30 PM Eastern on Fox. The Cup and Xfinity Series remain on the West Coast as they will be racing in Phoenix next weekend. The Craftsman Truck Series takes next weekend off but will return in two weeks under the lights at Bristol.
