The Jon Jones saga continues to unfold with each new development. It seems that the former UFC light heavyweight champion is closer and closer to a return to the Octagon. His rumored return is getting mixed reactions from fans. Some fans hope to see him return to the cage, and others hoping he never returns at all. This past weekend, Jones revealed he is in talks to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 282 on Sat Dec 12, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The potential fight would see Jon Jones make his UFC debut as a heavyweight. It remains unknown how this fight would play out. The general consensus seems to be that if the fight were to take place as planned, Jones would be favored to win. Stipe is considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. However, he is coming off a brutal knockout loss to Francis Ngannou after a trilogy with Daniel Cormier. Despite Jones’ long layoff and inconsistent behavior over the last few years, he is widely viewed as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and many believe he has what it takes to beat any opponent in the UFC, regardless of weight class. If this matchup does take place, it will be the first meeting between the two fighters.

Will The Jones-Miocic Fight Happen?

It’s no secret that the UFC wants Jones to return to the Octagon. However, nothing has materialized to this point. Jon Jones tweeted that it is Stipe who is holding the negotiations up, not the UFC itself. Assuming that this is the case, it is possible the UFC may be negotiating a bout agreement at this time. If the two sides can agree on terms for the fight, it will likely end up being one of the biggest fights of 2022.

With a little over a month until fight night, there is still plenty of time for things to change or fall through. It looks like this has the potential to be a great matchup if everything comes together. Miocic has been silent on social media, so it is currently unknown what negotiations are going on between the two sides. While there is no telling how this fight will unfold, the potential is there for two great athletes to put on an incredible show for the fans on Dec. 12.
