The Los Angeles Lakers are in a weird spot. They have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but they’re not winning a lot of games. As of now, we’re talking about a club that is ninth in the West. They don’t really have an easy schedule the rest of the way either. Kendrick Perkins stated on First Take that the Lakers need to be worried and he’s not wrong. Out of the next 23 games, the Lakers have 16 games against a team with a better record.

“As far as this season alone the Lakers better be worried about making the playoffs, let alone making a run in the playoffs. (As a) matter of fact, the playoffs have started.”

For the Lakers this season, the playoff time has come. They need to start playing their best ball if they want to make a run and get into the tournament. If they don’t, a team like the Utah Jazz or Houston Rockets probably could sneak into the play-in tournament with the strength of schedule that the Lakers have.

In the final stretch of the season, the Lakers have to face the Clippers who they don’t match up well with. They have to face the Milwaukee Bucks twice, the Golden State Warriors twice and the Indiana Pacers twice. So, yes while the off-season will be important, the Lakers should not be putting their focus on the playoffs. In the meantime, the Lakers need to find depth at the big man positions in case if Davis gets hurt. The way they’re constructed right now, they won’t match up well against teams like Minnesota and Denver.
