On Tuesday morning the number one overall quarterback in the transfer portal, Devin Leary, committed to Kentucky and filled their missing quarterback position.

The quarterback situation at Kentucky has been under control ever since 6’4, mobile quarterback Will Levis transferred from Penn State in 2021. Levis led the Wildcats to one of their better seasons in program history back in 2021 and caught the eye of many NFL scouts. Making a case to get drafted within the first ten picks.

This past season, Kentucky went 7-5 and earned themselves a date in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Levis decided to forego the Music City Bowl game in Nashville and declare for the 2023 NFL draft.

Once Levis announced he was leaving, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops began shopping the transfer portal and began looking to fill the open quarterback position.

Devin Leary played four seasons at North Carolina State and put up his most impressive stats during the 2021 season, throwing 3,433 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes. The 6 ‘1 New Jersey native was listed as the number one available quarterback in the transfer portal and the third-best overall player.

The new Kentucky quarterback will work alongside new offensive coordinator Liam Cohen.

Cohen was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the blue grass back in 2021. The season Kentucky went 10-3.

Now, Cohen is the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL. Cohen is having a down season as the Rams are currently 4-10 and officially out of playoff contention.

After Kentucky’s disappointing 2022 season they fired their offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello and decided to rehire Cohen for the 2023 season. Will Levis may be gone but Cohen is back. Will Leary be able to be successful with Kentucky the way Levis was?
