Khary Crump Takes Plea Deal

After the Big Ten rivalry game between Michigan State and the University of Michigan after the game a fight, occurred in the tunnel. The University of Michigan won this game 27-9 leading to seven MSU players attacking one U of M player. Khary Crump is the only player to receive a felony charge.

Seven Player Charges

In addition, eight MSU players were suspended and missed the last four games of the season. The eight include all of the players who received charges as well as Malcolm Jones.

Khary Crump Plea Deal

Khary Crump, 21, decided to swing his helmet at Gemon Green after a loss. Therefore, he was charged with felonious assault and pled guilty to misdemeanor counts of assault/battery and disorderly conduct person-jostling. Furthermore, by taking this pled deal Crump is likely to escape jail time. According to the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act if he meets all the requirements all his charges will be dropped and cleared off of any record. All charges are punishable by 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Big Ten

Michigan State football was fined the most out of Big Ten in history for this action. In brief, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren levied a $100,000 fine, surpassing Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard for hitting Wisconsin assistant coach back in February. For example, Howard’s fine was $40,000.

“The Big Ten Conference has a standard of excellence both academically and athletically that has been built over 127 years,” Warren said. “Our standards require that our student-athletes, coaches, and staff members represent the conference, and their member institutions, with the highest level of decorum and sportsmanship. We are taking disciplinary action and will continue to work with our member institutions to strengthen their gameday procedures and ensure our honored traditions.”
