After many attempts at testing the waters in the free agency market, and getting looks at Meyers Leonard and DeMarcus Cousins, the lakers have decided to trade for Rui Hachimura.

It appears that the Los Angeles Lakers have found their big man. Hachimura has been on the trade block for at least a week now, and the Lakers have finalized a trade to send Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks to the Washington Wizards.

Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the news:

The former Gonzaga product was working on a rookie contract extension with the Wizards before the start of the season, however, he has since grown unhappy.

Hachimura, who was the ninth overall pick in 2019, has performed well coming off the bench for the Wizards this season. Averaging 13 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.4 blocks. The 24-year-old Power Forward is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason and the Wizards have a surplus amount of talent at the position. They’d like to re-sign Kyle Kuzma.

With the addition of Rui Hachimura, the Lakers intend to sign him to a contract extension.

Hachimura will provide shooting help to the Lakers, especially on the wings. He’s shot 41.3% on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers over the past seasons. Whether the Lakers plan to use Hachimura as a starter or coming off the bench has not been confirmed. Either way, he should prove to be a viable option for Darvin Ham‘s offense.
