Latest on Damian Lillard being traded

By now, the entire world should know that Damian Lillard has asked to be traded. Though, it’s been nearly a week and no move has been made. Of course, trades that include a star player like Lillard take time.

The main teams that have been rumored are the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics. Though according to reports, Lillard’s agent has told teams not named the Heat to trade for him.

“I do what I should for my client. Some teams I did call. Other teams have called me,” Goodwin said. “It’s a respectful relationship with most teams. Truthfully, he wants to play in Miami. Period.”

Lillard and his party are focused on Miami, but the Blazers are getting the feel for the best available package. Trail Blazers General Manager Joe Cronin plans to speak with other GMs and team presidents at the Las Vegas Summer League. Still, Goodwin believes that Cronin will grant Lillard his wish. According to Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian.

I had a positive conversation with Joe and I made it clear that Damian would want them to sit down and have a meaningful negotiation with Miami.” Goodwin said. “And I think that’s something that Joe and the Blazers will do.”

So what if the Blazers traded Damian Lillard to a team besides the Heat?

A source familiar with his thinking claims that he would hold out, according to Mark Medina.

“He just wouldn’t go,” the source said. “He just wouldn’t report. … I don’t think the other team would trade for him knowing that he doesn’t want to be there.”

Lillard’s situation wouldn’t be like Kawhi Leonard’s where he was able to go where he wanted after the first year. Lillard signed a contract extension with the Trail Blazers through 2027, which means he still has four years left on that deal.

As of now, trade talks between Portland and Miami have revolved around finding a third team to take Tyler Herro. That, but also to help sweeten the deal because the Blazers are not impressed with the offer from the heat.
